How we make money
Right now we do not. There are no partners, no advertising, nothing is sold and no data leaves this site. That will not be true forever, so this page exists to make the change visible when it comes.

What is true today
- No advertising anywhere on the site.
- No dealer, lender, broker or insurer pays us, and none of them has any say over a number the calculator produces.
- No affiliate or referral fees. There is nothing on the site to click through to.
- Nothing is sold to anyone, and there is nothing to sell: the privacy page sets out that the only thing recorded is an anonymous banded count.
- Free to use, with no account and no paid tier.
Why it is free
The calculator was built because every Canadian car calculator answers the wrong question. They tell you the payment on a price. Almost nobody tells you what you can afford, and nobody at all includes the Ontario insurance bill, which is often the single biggest number in the whole decision.
Answering that properly is worth doing whether or not there is a business in it. Charging a person for an honest estimate of what they can afford, at the exact moment they are worried about money, is the wrong way round.
What we are likely to do later
The plan is that dealers eventually pay to be introduced to a buyer who has asked to be introduced. Not for your data, not for your attention, and never as a condition of getting your number.
If that day comes, these are the rules we are committing to now:
- The calculator stays completely usable without agreeing to anything. Consent to be contacted will never be a gate in front of a result.
- Nothing gets sent to anybody unless you have asked us to, on a separate screen, with the name of the business that will contact you written on it.
- We will not sell your information to a pool of unnamed buyers. It is the standard model in this industry and we are not doing it.
- No paid placement in a result. If a partner ever appears anywhere on this site, it will say that it is a partner, in the same size type as everything around it.
- This page will name who is paying us and for what, before the money starts, not after.
Holding us to it
The date at the top of this page is when it was last gone over. If you are reading it after something has changed and it still says there are no partners, we have broken a promise and you should tell us at hamata.mike@gmail.com.
Where the numbers themselves come from, and what we do when one of them turns out to be wrong, is on the editorial policy page.
